Naso – One in a Million

© Copyright Jewish Discovery Center -Chabad of the Abingtons, all rights reserved.

In our parshah this week we read about the dedication of the Mishkan, the portable sanctuary that stood at the center of the Jewish people in their encampments in the desert.

It's odd though that the Torah lists the gifts that each of the leaders of the tribes brought to dedicate the altar. Even though each man brought identical gifts, the torah repeats the itemized list twelve times over and over, a senseless repetition of an almost exact reading!

Why would the Torah, which is always extremely limited in its use of extra words and even letters, go ahead and in a span of over seventy verses, repeat – seemingly for no reason – the same information, when it could have just provided an accounting of the total items donated!?

Tune in to our Parshah Cast this week and discover the beautiful message hidden in this story.

Naso – One in a Million
The Torah lists separately the gifts that each of the leaders of the tribes brought to dedicate the altar, even though each man brought identical gifts. Why does the Torah repeat the same list twelve times in a row?  (4:04)
