Leadership
Each of us can serve as a leader. And one leader creates another and another, ad infinitum, just as one candle’s flame lights another and another, until the once-impenetrable darkness has turned to brilliant light.

Tobey Lass
President
|
Hi everyone! My name is Tobey Lass and I’m Junior majoring in Human Development and minoring in Judaic Studies. I am originally from East Brunswick, NJ.
When I’m is not busy being Vice President of the Chabad House, you can find me teaching Palates on Tuesday nights or cooking for Shabbat on Thursday afternoons. I am also involved in tour guiding, Binghamton University blogging, the Alpha Phi sorority and Panhellenic Council, and working at Handicapped Children’s Association. In my free time, I LOVE exploring Binghamton. Some of my favorite places are the story garden, Ross Park Zoo, and going horseback riding.
I love the Chabad house for so many reasons. One of the things that I love the most is that once you walk through the doors of this place, that all labels that define you outside these walls don’t exist anymore. The bookworm, the punk rocker, the sorority girl and so many other people are all the same in the love that they share for Judaism. I can honestly say that some of my best friends here at college are people who I never would have met if it weren’t for Chabad. If I could offer one piece of advice to anyone reading this, it’s to get involved. There are so many programs, religious, learning, social, cultural that there really is something for everyone. No matter what kind of Jewish upbringing you might have had, the Chabad house is somewhere that all Jewish students can feel comfortable and learn more about their Judaism.
If you have any questions about Chabad happenings, Greek life, or just being in Binghamton in general, feel free to email her at tobey.lass@binghamton.edu. Tobey is excited for a great year and can’t wait to
meet everyone!

Tova Stark
Vice President
|
I'm from Providence, Rhode Island, and I'm a Senior - Human Development Major - here at Binghamton. I just got back from my Junior year abroad in Israel where I studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I love swimming, reading, hanging out with friends and Israelis from various programs I've done throughout life such as Camp Ramah New England, Nesiya, and the Rothberg International School.
I enjoy being involved in Chabad because of a deep love for the Chabad movement, I was practically raised by Chabad in Portland, Maine, where I lived the first six years of my life. I believe that they do a lot of good things for all different types of people, and I want to help them out.
I would like to see more unity within the Jewish community at Binghamton, and I would advocate that students from different backgrounds of Judaism explore something that is completely opposite of their origin. |

Jon Cogan
Treasurer
|
Jonathan Cogan (Scarsdale, NY) has been a member of the Chabad Executive Board since 2008, serving as its treasurer. He is currently a junior double majoring in Economics and Philosophy, Politics, and Law.
Jonathan became involved in Chabad after realizing the importance of helping build a strong Jewish community for both the current and future students in Binghamton University. It is his wish that in the years to come the strength of the Jewish community here at Binghamton continues to grow rapidly.
He urges everyone to become more involved in Chabad and appreciate all that it has to offer.

Heather Fink
Secretary
|
My name is Heather Fink and I am from New York City. I am a junior, majoring in Psychology. In my free time I like to hang out with
friends, play guitar and take pictures.
Chabad is my second home at Binghamton.
Chabad provided me with a social and spiritual outlet outside of my schoolwork. Every Friday night I am welcomed by the Slonim family and all my friends. After I was Bat Mitzvah at Chabad in December, I knew I wanted to give back to the organization that had already done so much for me. I have made such great friends at Chabad and feel lucky to have such a vibrant Jewish community at Binghamton.
Shabbat dinners are so much fun and an excellent way to take your mind off a hard week of classes. On Friday nights I am able to spend time with friends that have become my family without any distractions. It’s an amazing feeling to forget everything else and enjoy life!No matter what events you decide to attend, being around the Chabad community will always put a smile on your face.
I wish more people knew how welcoming the Chabad community is to all Jews. Rivki Slonim's belief is that ”we all have a Jewish soul" and every Jew is welcome at Chabad. It truly is "easy to come and hard to leave." I encourage the students to come down and find out for themselves!

Rena Asher
Special Projects Coordinator
|
My name is Rena Asher and I am a Geography Major, with an Urban Planning concentration. I am one of the unique few from Lower Merion, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. I love watching sports (The Phillies and Eagles are my teams!) and was a high school athlete. Now in college, I enjoy being able to relax and hang out with friends when not busy with schoolwork.
I love being involved with Chabad and contributing my own ideas and helping with behind-the-scenes planning and decision-making. I truly believe that Chabad is a great contribution for all students on campus not only as a place to enjoy Shabbat meals, but also to educate them about Jewish events and customs. I personally love coming to Chabad and Chabad events with my friends and seeing new faces each time.
My goal is to keep these new faces coming to all events. I want people to discover and develop their Jewish identity through Chabad, no matter what their background. Whenever someone asks me why I came to Binghamton I answer, “For the Jews;” when someone asks me how I like Binghamton, my first response is always, “It has the most amazing Jewish community and Chabad House!” |

Ariella Fineman
Greek Liaison
|
My name is Ariella Fineman and I am a sophomore here at Binghamton, majoring in Human Development. I am one of the many few out-of-state students from a small town outside of Boston called Sharon. During my free time, I like to read, run, snowboard, do yoga, hang out with my friends and spend time with my friends in Alpha Phi!
There are so many things I love about Chabad, but I feel that there is one thing that makes it extra special. Right when I enter the doors for Shabbat or any special event, I, along with so many other students, feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere from all the people that greet me with a smile.
No matter who you are, I believe that you can feel comfortable at Chabad. I would love to see more people from all denominations of Judaism come to Chabad’s events, especially more people in Greek life. I promise, once you come a few times, consistently, you’ll be hooked!

Dayna Driscoll
Social Chair
|
My name is Dayna Driscoll and I’m a Sophomore at Binghamton majoring in Linguistics and Political Science with a minor in Theatre. I’m from Brooklyn and in my free time I enjoy going to the city, spending time with friends, reading, shopping & cooking.
One of the main reasons I chose to come to Chabad was my desire to connect with other Jewish students and get involved in something that would add to my college experience. I started Binghamton in the Spring of my Freshman year & immediately after joining Chabad the feeling of being the new girl diminished. Not only did I make amazing friends, but I found a second home at the Chabad house.
Whether going to Chabad on Shabbat and holidays, for special events, or just to volunteer time, what I enjoy most is the overwhelming sense of purpose and love that I feel as a result.
Chabad has many opportunities to offer students & everyone is always welcome. At Chabad the doors are always open and I sincerely hope that
as time goes on I will see even more Binghamton students join this already growing family. |

Tamar Druck
Public Relations
|
My name is Tamar Druck and I am a senior here at Binghamton, majoring in Judaic Studies. I am from Manhattan, and in my free time I like to listen to music, read, and spend time with friends.
One of the reasons why I chose to come to Binghamton was because of the great things that I heard about Chabad. Students here are so lucky to have a "home away from home." Its sounds like a clich, but it’s really amazing to have a place that does feel like home, right from the very start. Coming to college for the first time can be overwhelming, and it is comforting to know that at Chabad, anyone is welcome and is taken care of. Chabad is a warm and nurturing place, and it provides a safe, loving, place in the midst of a big college, a place where you can learn, make lifelong friends, and eat! Between the good food (both Shabbat and weeknights), the great company, and all of the exciting classes and events, everyone will find something that they enjoy and can take advantage of.
Over the years, Chabad has grown and expanded tremendously, both physically and in numbers. My message to new students is to come to Chabad and get involved in all that it has to offer, so that it will continue to grow in the future. It is such a fun and special place, and it will only add to your college experience here at Binghamton.

Rotem Ben-Meir
Chabad off Campus Rep.
|
My name is Rotem Ben-Meir and I am currently a Senior at Binghamton University. I live off campus and back at home I live in Marlboro, New Jersey. I am Pre-Health, an Economics major, and a Biology minor. So I basically spend most of my time in the library! But, on my free time I love to be with my friends, listen to music, and play any instrument I can (even though I do not know how to play).
When I first got here I thought that all my Jewish traditions would be lost since I wouldn't have any friends or anyone to celebrate with. I came to Chabad and realized I was wrong as soon as I met all of the hundreds of Jewish students that were just as concerned as I was. Everyone was so nice to me and accepted me for who I was. I had more than enough people to sit and be with at the Shabbat dinner every Friday night and on all of the Holidays. Chabad became my home away from home.
I always hoped that every student could share the feelings I had and could be just as happy as I am now. And as a message to all the students: Live life, enjoy it as much as you can and most of all.. come to Chabad I PROMISE you'll love it! :)
