Jewish Bearcat of the Week
Featuring Lexie Rosenblatt
What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I have always wanted to work with children but I wasn’t originally sure of what to do. I decided to major in Human Development with a minor in Speech and Hearing Sciences, because this was always something that fascinated me. I am so excited to pursue Speech Pathology as a career and to, of course, work with kids.

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
I was originally hesitant to come to Binghamton because I knew of other schools that had overwhelmingly strong Jewish communities. But coming here, I realized that the community is so unique and special, and has helped shape me into the person I am today. It has instilled in me the value of religion and has also encouraged me to continue to be a religious and proud Jew every single day.

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I am from Westchester, NY and I went to Frisch.

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
I love the Jewish community at Chabad, it has helped me grow so much as a person and in my religious beliefs. There are so many opportunities to engage in Jewish growth and I love taking Jewish U classes at Chabad.

Do you have any siblings?
I have 3 siblings Brett, Kyra, and Lily. I also have a dog named Lucky.

What is your favorite Jewish food?
My favorite Jewish food is schnitzel. I love making and eating it every weekend.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is pizza.

What's your favorite lockdown experience?
I was in quarantine three separate times, but one time I was quarantined with Shoshana Scheinberg and our friends brought us pizza, so we had to construct a pulley system to bring it up to us.

What is your favorite Chabad experience?
My favorite Chabad experience is Shabbat 2000. It is amazing to see how many people come together to experience a really meaningful Shabbat.

What is your favorite Jewish childhood memory?
My favorite Jewish childhood memory is when every Pesach my entire family of over twenty people, would go down to Florida and squish into one house. It’s a week of really fun and amazing memories and quality family time. I have such a tight-knit family and I believe gathering together like this is one of the reasons why we are all so close.

Rabbi Tzvi Freeman

The mess of fragments the Creator gave us, those are the pieces He broke apart for us to create our own, better world.

But the mess of fragments we have torn apart ourselves by our own poor choice—who is to say that these too have any redeeming value?

Because this is the way the world was designed: Any descent always results, eventually, in an ascent. The more broken is the world, the more it can be improved. Yes, a more difficult job, a longer path home—but eventually it will be achieved.

Wherever you are, in whatever situation you have gotten yourself, there is purpose, only one purpose: To go higher.
