Featuring Shoshana Behar

What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I am a psychology major, I have always been intrigued by the complexity of human behavior. I am particularly interested in helping to improve the culture of organizations to create more pleasant and productive work environments. Ultimately, I desire a career that I am passionate about and allows me to make a positive difference.
Where are you from? Where did you go to high school?
I grew up in Seattle and went to a really small high school called Northwest Yeshiva High School. Seattle is beyond beautiful and I love it there so much!
Do you have any siblings?
I do! I have three older brothers making me the youngest and only girl which was a unique experience growing up.
What is your favorite book? Why?
I don't think I would be able to narrow down my favorite book of all time but my favorite book that I've read this year so far is One by One by Ruth Ware. I have been very into reading mystery thriller books because they keep me on my toes the whole time.
What is your favorite Jewish food?
My favorite Jewish food are Borekas, specifically the ones made by the Sephardic community in Seattle.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food will always be pasta. Mac and cheese, fettuccine Alfredo, seriously anything.
What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
My favorite Jewish holiday has always been Pesach. I love the opportunity to sit at a table with all of my family (aunts, uncles, cousins), because we aren’t able to do it that often and it's always so fun.
What's a quote or saying that you like?
I’ve always loved the quote by Dr. Seuss, “Today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive that is you-er than you."
How do you envision yourself in twenty years?
I envision myself moving to Israel with my family and living in Ranaana or somewhere similar to it (and hopefully fluent in Hebrew).
What is your favorite Chabad experience?
My favorite Chabad experience is going to Friday night dinner. I love how lively it is and being able to take some time to focus on friends rather than school. Going to Chabad really helped me adjust to Binghamton and I met so many of my friends through it.
What's your favorite lockdown experience?
One of the most amazing positives from lockdown was spending time with my family. It gave us the opportunity to be around each other in a new capacity and while it was difficult at times, in the end, it really brought all of us so close together.

How can I get ahead of the curve in a stem related field?
- Stressed-out stem student
Dear stressed-out stem student,
First of all, you are doing great, take a minute to relax. I know you probably aren’t.
Also, lucky for you, there are tons of ways to get involved in the stem field; whether it be through internships, research, volunteering or forming relationships with teachers
Enjoy!
