Shabbat at Chabad

Dear Binghamton community,

After a week that has shaken us all, this Shabbat is an opportune time to gather together.  Let us join in lighting candles, praying, and singing in honor of our brothers and sisters in Israel.

There will be heightened security at both Chabad on campus and Chabad Downtown at all Shabbat events as well as police escorts to and from UClub.

Walking groups with police escort to Chabad:
Friday night at 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 from the front of C4
Friday night at 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 from UClub, from the bus station closest to Plaza Drive

Walking groups with police escort will walk back to campus and UClub after Shabbat dinner.

A walking group with police escort will meet Shabbat morning at 11:30 am at the front of C4.

Featuring Michal Levine

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
Because of my mom! My mom is a Bing Alum and I grew up hearing stories of how amazing the school and the Slonims of Chabad are and so I had to see it for myself and I’m so glad I did!

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I’m from Jamaica Estates, Queens and I went to SAR High School.

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
Chabad’s Shacharis and Mincha/Maariv minyan, having these minyanim every day has given me a chance to strengthen my Judaism by stopping what I’m doing, running to Chabad to daven, and afterward seeing friends who have become like family.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have a younger brother named Ayal (16).

What is your favorite Jewish food?
Oo that’s a hard one, I have so many, potato or Lukshen Kugel, Cholent, Schnitzel, and NY Bagels specifically Cinnamon Raisin.

What is your favorite food?
I know everyone is going to say it’s not a food but I have to go with coffee.

What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
I'd have to go with Chanukah because it’s a time when my family and friends come from near and far to celebrate together. Having the experience to celebrate it in Israel during Sem was incredible! It’s also right around my birthday so I feel like that's a bonus!!!!

What's a quote or saying that you like?
״מה רבו מעשיך ה׳״

I love this quote because it reminds me every day when saying Shema (and on my ring) that Hashem has a hand in everything and to see the beauty in the world.

How do you envision yourself in twenty years?
Living somewhere in New York with my husband and 4 kids and working at a Jewish non-profit.

What is your favorite Chabad experience?
Cooking in the kitchen with Rivky every Thursday and Friday morning. I look forward to it every week!

What's your favorite lockdown experience?
My brother’s Bar Mitzvah was in May 2020 and so we had to improvise a little. We had a Zoom laying in our dining room using a family friend’s Torah, my grandparents got him a balloon arch where we took pictures using a tripod and his friends drove by to celebrate where we gave out goodie bags and kippot.
