Jewish Bearcat of the Week
Featuring Amalia Loeb

What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I am pursuing a dual degree in Business Administration and Psychology. I chose psychology because the brain fascinates me and chose business because I want a job :)

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
I honestly chose Binghamton because two of my older sisters went here and loved it. Plus, I knew it had a good Jewish community, which is also really important to me.

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I am from West Orange, NJ and went to Kushner.

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
I love that there is a sense of innate connection and love for every other Jewish person that you encounter.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have three sisters. Eliana, Clara, and Dalia. Eliana went here and graduated in 2020 and Dalia also goes here and is getting her MBA.

Do you have a hobby?  Why do you love it?
Hot yoga!! It’s literally so amazing and makes me feel rejuvenated. At Binghamton, I usually go with my friends before Shabbat every week.

What is your favorite Jewish food?
Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomato, onion and lox.

What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
Chanukah for obvious reasons.

What's your dream job?
Working for the Jets. If anyone has any connection to that or the NFL in general PLEASE reach out to me :))))

What's a quote or saying that you like?
If there’s room in the heart there’s room in the home <3

Tzvi Berman's Blog

I don’t know about you guys but the delicious cultural blend of flavors from Ashkefardic Night was definitely something to remember. To ensure no one forgets this night, here is a review of some of my favorite foods from that special night.

Borscht: Ukrainian speciality beet soup, the borscht really warmed my taste buds and my inner Ashki. Not to mention, its Antioxidants and Anti inflammatories got rid of every ounce of previous pain in my body.

Lachmagine(meat pizza): Lachmagine, Lachmagine, Lachmagine. I love saying that word! One of my favorite words in the food dictionary for sure! Of course, Lachmagine has earned this right as its rich flavor can turn any bad day into a good one.

Shawarma Kebab: It’s amazing blend of flavors as well as its fascinating smell made me feel like I was back in Israel ordering Kebab from the Shuk Hacarmel.

Roasted Eggplant: Roasted Eggplant is a staple in Middle Eastern and Turkish Cuisine. It's also a staple for an amazing dinner. You can pair it with almost any food whether it is ashkenazic or sephardic and it will still turn out good. Additionally, the techina is the perfect cherry on top for this amazing dish.

Torah Thought

Abraham’s inn was the first public institution devoted to the dissemination of the belief in monotheism and to the ethical behavior that follows from this belief. By establishing a public institution that challenged the world’s hallowed tenets, Abraham promoted the awareness of monotheism even among people who never actually visited his inn. As its renown spread, Abraham’s inn wielded increasingly profound and broad influence.

Likewise today, the very existence of synagogues and institutions of Torah study exert great positive influence upon a city simply by the mere virtue of their presence, over and above the intrinsic value of the study and prayer that take place within their walls.
