Featuring David Alpert
Where are you from? Where did you go to high school?
I'm from Riverdale, New York, and I went to SAR High School.
What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I'm in Binghamton's School of Management, currently majoring in Business Administration and looking to concentrate in Finance. For a long time I had no idea what profession I wanted to pursue, but with my friends always speaking about their investments and other financial news as well as my enjoyment of economics class, I decided to take the chance on Business. So far, it's been very interesting
learning the ins and outs of how companies function and are valued, and I love the constant need to research and learn in order to be successful in this field.
What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
There's always people that come from a similar background to you that are open and happy to be your friend, which makes you feel like you're a part of a thriving community. Especially with all of the events hosted by Chabad, it made finding great people super easy and helped me adjust to college life very fast.
Do you have any siblings?
Until recently I was an only child, but two and a half years ago I got a step-brother!
Do you have a hobby? Why do you love it?
I love staying fit and being healthy, whether it be through weight-lifting or running. Not only has it transformed my body physically, but it also clears my mind, and is an activity where I can just zone-out from whatever problems I might be having and use that energy to pump some iron or run for miles.
What is your favorite Jewish food?
I don't think anything beats that opening Friday night dinner Challah. Don't even get me started if it's a fresh cinnamon Challah role (YUM).
What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
There's so many to choose from, but it has to be Simchat Torah. I have great memories of being hosted by friends in New Rochelle, alongside most of my grade, and having a blast. Dancing with the Torah, playing sports, and hanging out with everyone are just a few highlights.
If you were a breakfast cereal, which one would you be and why?
Most people would say the ordinary cereals, which is fine of course, but I would be Special K Red Berries. It might be the most underrated cereal of all time and is healthy (I think?), both of which I'd like to think describe me.
What's your dream job?
As of now, it would be being a content creator for my favorite gaming team, OpTic Gaming. I already work with a bunch of professionals and brands in the gaming industry, and seeing the freedom and pure fun that they have on a day to day basis looks like a dream job where they actually enjoy what they do while making insane money.
What's a quote or saying that you like?
"It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa, Rocky
What is your favorite Jewish childhood memory?
Hanging out with the boys on Shabbat. It's something I looked forward to every week since it was a time to just chill and play sports.
What's your favorite lockdown experience?
Playing Warzone with the boys. They were not very good, but it was fun teaching them how to play and getting heart-pumping wins.
What makes you proud to be a Jew?
Being a part of the most resilient, smartest, and dedicated nation on the planet is something to be extremely proud of. The sheer fact that we're still alive, but are also as successful as we are is inspiring and a constant reminder that we're the chosen people, and therefore it's up to this entire generation to carry on the Jewish legacy.
