Jewish Bearcat of the Week
Featuring Leah Cherson

What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I am what I would consider Pre-Nursing. In other words, I'm trying to switch into Decker.

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
I chose Binghamton because of the amazing Jewish community here and the good social scene. Not to mention the academia is pretty good.

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I'm from Hewlett, NY. In case you don't know, it's one of the 5 towns, next to Woodmere. I went to Central for high school.

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
I love that there are so many opportunities to experience Judaism to the fullest while being on a secular campus.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have a twin sister (I'm older by 28 minutes ;)) and a sister that is 3 years younger than me. She's graduating from high school this year!

What is your favorite book? Why?
My favorite book is Percy Jackson because I love the story and the nostalgia with my childhood.

Do you have a hobby?  Why do you love it?
I love playing the guitar, although I'm not as good as I'd like to be. It's fun to play the notes and chords while singing my favorite songs.

What is your favorite Jewish food?
That's tough. I'd have to go with the chullent and potato kuggle combo, but I change my mind every day ;)

What is your favorite food?
I'm always in the mood for a good hamburger.

What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
Chanukah is my favorite holiday because its a time when my family would be together outside from shabbat and chag. And I like presents.

If you were a breakfast cereal, which one would you be and why?
I'd be Cinnamon Toast Crunch because I love the cinnamon and sugar combo and I feel like I give off the vibe of being a silly little cereal square.

What's your dream job?
Oh so many things. My top 2 would be being the goalkeeper for the USNWST and being an archaeologist.

What's a quote or saying that you like?
I love the quote from Perkei Avot that goes:
- מְקַבֵּל אֶת כָּל הָאָדָם בְּסֵבֶר פָּנִים יָפוֹת
Greet every person with a smile
