Jewish Bearcat of the Week
Introducing Rafi Rockman

What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
I am an environmental studies major and I decided to pursue this degree because I believe everyone has the right to a clean environment despite socioeconomic class.

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
I chose Bing for its robust Jewish community and to make new friends.

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I am from North Brunswick, NJ and I went to North Brunswick Township High School.

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
I love the inclusivity, learning opportunities, and devotion to core Jewish tenets.

Do you have any siblings?
I have one older sister named Bashe, which is pronounced Ba-She.

What is your favorite book? Why?
My favorite book is called “The Overstory” by Richard Powers because it made me understand why it is so important for humans to have relationships with the natural world.

Do you have a hobby?  Why do you love it?
I play the banjo and I love it because it could be extremely valuable if I ever decide to become southern and also it’s unique.

What is your favorite Jewish food?
Matzah pizza - I eat it all year round.

If you were a breakfast cereal, which one would you be and why?
Probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch because it’s sweet like me and everyone likes it.

What's your dream job?
Running a homeless shelter.

What's a quote or saying that you like?
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

How do you envision yourself in twenty years?
Have lots of kids that everyone thinks are super cute and wrap tefillin everyday still, of course.

What is your favorite Chabad experience?
Having a quick chill with the Rabbis on Shabbos.

SOUL COFFEE
Rabbi Tzvi Freeman

We were created in G‑d’s image. What is His image? It is a vision. A vision that triggered the beginning of time.

From a point before and beyond all things, G‑d looked upon a moment in time to be. He saw there a soul, distant from Him in a turbulent world, yet yearning to return to Him and His oneness. And He saw the pleasure He would have from this reunion.

So He invested His infinite light into that finite image, and became one with that image, and in that image He created each one of us.

That vision that He saw, that was the moment now.
