Jewish Bearcat of the Week
Featuring Atara Keehn
What is your major, and why did you decide to pursue this degree?
Um, Cinema, orrrr SOM orrrr Human Development. Oh ya, definitely the last one.

Why did you choose Binghamton University?
I chose it for the amazing Jewish life; somehow that outweighed the freezing cold weather and the impossible-to-get-to location from Florida.

Where are you from?  Where did you go to high school?
I am from a small town called Boca Raton, Florida, and I went to Katz (Yeshiva High School).

What do you love about Jewish life on campus?
I love that I don’t have to worry about where to go for Shabbat. Oh, and the matzah ball soup on friday night!

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I’m the youngest of three, so basically I never got to choose the channel or sit shotgun, but I did get a couple years of being the only child after they all left the house, so I call that a win.

What is your favorite book? Why?
The very hungry caterpillar. I just relate to it.

Do you have a hobby?  Why do you love it?
I dabble in Block Blast and diamond art.

What is your favorite Jewish food?
I can always go for a bowl of spicy cholent.

What's your favorite Jewish holiday and why?
Chanukah might be my favorite because the weather is always perfect (at least in Florida), and I love the lights,  and of course, nothing beats fried food (team Latke and applesauce all the way).

What's your dream job?
I would LOVE to be a full-time travel blogger. (I'm already a part-time one. Follow orlyandatara.wordpress.com)

What's a quote or saying that you like?
“You miss 100% of the shots you don't take” (Michael Scott) (Wayne Gretzky) (Atara Keehn)

What is your favorite Jewish childhood memory?
Singing “Put the Chicken in the Pot” in preschool.

What's your favorite lockdown experience?
I liked barely having school. Also, I guess spending time with my family was nice.

Rabbi Tzvi Freeman

A Jew entered the Alter Rebbe’s study and said, “Rebbe, I am a simple man. Please explain to me: What is this holiday of Shemini Atzeret?”

The Alter Rebbe held his head in his hands for a moment. Then he answered:

“For a long journey, you might make a concentrate of the food and drink you will need for the way. At every stop, you mix some of the powder with water, and you have enough for that day.”

Shemini Atzeret contains all the joy for the entire year, but in highly concentrated form. Treasure every moment!”
