Binghamton University Students Pesach guidelines

It is of utmost importance that you sell your Chametz (any foods or utensils used to prepare or eat food that are not kosher for Pesach). Since the sale of Chametz is a complex legal dynamic, do not give or sell it to your non Jewish friend or roommate.

Access the sale of Chametz form empowering Rabbi Aaron Slonim to sell your chametz for you by clicking here. It is necessary for you to gather all of these items and render them inaccessible by placing them in a box, cupboard or closet that you will tape shut for the duration of the holiday.

If you:

Will not be at school during Passover:
If you are not coming back to school during Passover, you do not need to clean. You only need to sell your room or apt.

Will be returning to school during Passover:
If you will be leaving Binghamton before Passover and coming back to school during the holiday, you should perform the search for Chametz after cleaning your place on the evening before you leave school. If you perform the search before Tuesday, March 31st, do not pronounce the accompanying blessing for the search, and try to perform the search at home or wherever you might be Tuesday night, March 31st, on (at least) part of your house (or a room), this time pronouncing the blessing with G‑d's name.
If you are unable to do so please contact Rabbi Slonim to speak with him.

If you share living space with a non Jew you are responsible only for your space. Clean, search for Chametz and sell your Chametz. As for common space, ask your non Jewish (or non observant Jewish) roommate or suite-mates to be considerate as possible in terms of leaving Chametz around during the holiday.
