Dear Friends,
We hope you are enjoying "Spring Break" with your children; we certainly miss them here!
As we have passed the mid point of this semester, we wanted to share with you some of the excitement we have been experiencing with your children.
The semester started with a bang with students enjoying a Super Bowl Party followed quickly by Ski Trip and The Great Debate in which two esteemed professors took to the podium to debate the merits of Hamantashen V.s Latkes. It was an evening of satire, wit and belly laughs and a great way to celebrate Purim Katan. Students also had a blast at the Hamantashen and Rugelach Bake Off and that was just some of the Sundays.Then there was the Chabad House Cafe, Challah Baking, and some really great Rosh Chodesh Circle Programs for the girls. Chabad House also hosted some special speakers on subjects as varied as Bible Criticism vs.Divine Authorship, Love, Sex and Marriage the Jewish Way, Up, Up and Oy Vey! How Jewish History, Culture and Values Shaped the Comic Book Superhero and a presentation concerning Internet use safety titled, Protect Yourself: Big Brother is Watching.
Of course, all of this in addition to the weekly celebration of Shabbat at Chabad, an experience you have to see for yourself to appreciate, and the full roster of ongoing classes including Pizza and Parasha and the Supper with Soul - Beit Midrash program.
An especially innovative class series was dubbed The Kabbalah of Sports which was enjoyed by all in attendance.
The semester ended on a high note with the annual.
Purim Carnival Extravaganza which drew 1500 students to a spectacular night of fun that included games, rides, attractions, a Battle of the Bands, a hot-dog and pie eating contest, a costume competition, Prize Drawings, music and revelry. The carnival drew participants from the widest swath of campus groups and raised over $3,000 for charity. We are extremely proud of the many students who worked so hard to plan and execute this event.
Chabad House is also delighted to announce that our students have formed a new band called Facing East. Their debut performance made a big hit at a Saturday night Adar Madness Event held right before break.
All, in all, it has been a semester chock filled with activity and we will hit the ground running upon return from vacation with Shabbat 1500, the biggest Shabbat celebration to be held on any campus ever, anywhere!
All of this is possible because of the great student body we have. You can take great pride in their accomplishments!

Another awesome Purim Carnival visited BU with music, Hamantashen till you bust, attractions, games, food concession, a battle of the bands, a costume contest, hot dog and cream pie eating contests, a fabulous prize drawing plus over $3,000 was raised for charity. Can't wait for next year!

 Supper with Soul
Each Wednesday night, the walls of Chabad's great room are alive with the sounds of learning as students enjoy the Supper with Soul, Beit Midrash program. Supper is served at 7pm followed by an hour of peer study. Come on down and join the crowd!

 Super Bowl Party
A big crowd gathered at Chabad for what was surely one of the best Super Bowls in recent history, shown on a huge screen. Both the New England Patriots and New York Giants were cheered (and booed) by many while everyone devoured the Super Bowl Special from NYC's Dougie's. Rabbi Lewin gave a special D'var Torah during halftime. Afterwards, the excitement was high as the tides of the game turned, leading to an incredible, close finish.

 Chodesh Event Focuses on Wedding Customs
Chodesh event participants enjoyed ringing in the Jewish month of Adar I with wedding bells, Jewish ones that is. While noshing on "shmorg" food, an interactive discussion on various customs at Jewish weddings was enjoyed by all. To round out the evening, clips from Rivky and Rabbi's wedding were screened. Mazel Tov!

 Chocolate and Love
Students gathered at the Chabad House on the West Side to enjoy an evening of Chocolate fondue, cakes, and desserts highlighted by a discussion on love and relationships; the kaballah of soul mates. A lively question and answer session followed the presentation given by Rabbi Dan Lewin.

 The Great Debate
To mark the minor holiday of Purim Katan a debate about the virtues of Hamantashen vs. Latkes was held at Binghamton University. Students and Faculty alike enjoyed an evening of satire and refreshingly thought provoking (and often real belly laugh type) humor as this issue was seriously contested. Earnestly representing the Latke was Professor Allan Arkush, chair of the Judaic Studies Dept., while Professor Randy Friedman, Professor of Philosophy, argued passionately for the Hamantash. Professor Arieh Ullman, Professor of Management, moderated the debate. All three professors brought due gravity to this burning issue.

 Chabad Cafe & Preparations for Ladies Nite!
Chabad Cafe goers enjoyed a spirite game of Whose Line while others worked diligently preparing delectable foods and desserts for the annual Ladies Nite Shabbat.

 Adar Madness Jamming Night
We just couldn't wait for Purim so Chabad put on a Saturday night Jam Session with awesome live music by the newly formed Facing East Band. Way to go guys - you were great! Plus delicious Israeli food and good friends just chillin' out together. Who can ask for more?

 Hamantashen & Rugelach Bake-In
Happy students gathered to get into the Purim spirit with a Hamantashen and Rugelach workshop. Participants took home yummy samples, leaving plenty to be distributed to residents in area nursing homes.

 Kaballah of Sports
On Sunday, March 9, students enjoyed a very unique kind of program which begain with a lecture by Rabbi Lewin on the Kaballah of Sports. The two individual sports of boxing and tennis were used as primary examples due to the importance of developing the mental abilities and concentration in addition to the physical skills. Afterward, participants enjoyed boxing lessons with Nassim Assiz, a retired boxer and director of Triple Cities Championship boxing, while others took part in a tennis clinic.
