One of the main themes of Purim is unity and friendship. The students of Chabad , under the aegis of the Raff Maasim Tovim foundation visited area nursing homes , reading the megillah, bringing Mishloach Manot and bringing the holiday spirit to appreciative residents.

While the carnival was rescheduled due to a Blizzard that had Broome County in a state of emergency, it lacked for nothing! A huge crowd showed up to enjoy the rides, attractions, contests and food. The costumes were great, the spirit was amazing and the Mechanical Bull was absolutely wild. Over $3,000 was raised for relief efforts in Haiti through Magen David Adom. Go Binghamton!

It’s a program for women, by women, about women. Chabad, Alpha Phi and SDT co-sponsored an afternoon of education, inspiration and entertainment to benefit Sharsheret, the NJ based organization that provides services and support to Jewish women diagnosed with breast cancer. The program included a talk by breast cancer survivor Sima Aurbach and her friend Toni Grekin, an informative presentation by a BU instructor, performances by the Children’s Dance Theatre and the Harpeggios and a wonderful fashion show featuring the women of SDT, Alpha Phi and Chabad. $1,300 was raised for Kaskeset and fabulous raffle prizes were won by many!

Love was in the air as the Jewish month of Nissan was welcomed at a GNO program featuring a discussion of Jewish marriage customs, a power point presentation and footage from the wedding of Hadasa and Rabbi Levi Slonim and all things chocolate. It was a perfect balance of great discussion, shared laughs, fabulous treats and female bonding.

It’s an electrifying sight: well over 1300 collegiates gathered in one room to celebrate Shabbat. Weeks of planning and hard work on the part of dozens of students paid off as BU once again maintained its record and gathered the largest group of Jews in one Shabbat celebration. The program included a capella selections by BU’s Kaskeset and Maryland’s Rak Shalom, inspiring words by Rabbi Dov Greenberg, Kiddush, Hamotzi and a traditional Shabbat dinner spiced with song and a feeling of communal belonging and Jewish pride. The program was spearheaded by Chabad and co-sponsored and organized with Hillel. The Jewish student leadership and community at BU rocks!

Got Dough? Get it at Challah Baking!
The Challah Baking workshop was loads of fun for happy participants who learned how to mix, knead, shape, bake and even take home one of the world's greatest wonders: Fresh, home made Challah. Participants also learned about --and a few performed --the great Mitvah of "taking Challah."

What is it like to wrestle with a text until you have extracted each morsel fo meaning? What is it like to learn for the sake of incorporating teachings into ones' life? What is it like to come face to face with knowledge both timely and timeless? Participants in the annual Yeshiva for a Day got these questioned answered (and more) as ancient texts came allive in peer study with Yeshiva students from NYC.
