A Grand Shabbat Dinner at BU

Close to 2,000 students were expected to celebrate the Jewish Sabbath Friday night at Binghamton University.

Over 200 students help put together a grand Shabbat Dinner, one of the largest gatherings of this sort in the nation.

The event includes prayer, songs and a candle lighting as well as traditional foods—including 350 pounds of challah bread.

Organizers say its for students of all faiths.

"I think it's an amazing  opportunity.  There are so many students on campus who have Jewish friends or are themselves Jewish but have never been involved in anything and this is really an amazing way to involve everyone no matter what their comfort level is," said Samantha Greenstein.

The free event was put together by the Chabad Center For Jewish Student Life with supports from various other campus organizations.
